Gravesend Brooklyn, New York

The popular Brooklyn neighborhood of Gravesend is home to about 170,000 residents and a whole host of interesting activities, events and attractions. Its convenient location makes it easy to explore the larger Brooklyn area, from the beaches to Coney Island to MCU Park, the New York Aquarium and much more.

How the neighborhood earned its name is not known for sure, but it’s commonly speculated that it was named after the seaport of Gravesend in Kent, England. It’s also thought that perhaps it takes its name from a Dutch settlement called "Gravesande."

Gravesend is thought to have been founded by a woman named Lady Deborah Moody and was the first land title to be given to a woman in the New World. It was also one of the original six towns of Kings County in colonial New York.

With its diverse population, Gravesend offers a wide variety of ethnic restaurants, night clubs and cultural events for visitors and residents to enjoy. You’ll find delicious Turkish, Georgian, Middle Eastern, Indian, Thai, Vietnamese, Italian and classic New York or American cuisine throughout the neighborhood.

If you like to get outdoors, you will find a variety of activities are available all year long. Try ice skating at Aviator Sports Complex, walk or jog the boardwalks, beaches, and trails of area parks, play 18 holes at Marine Park Golf Course, take a boat tour or fishing charter, or spend the day exploring Brighton Beach or Coney Island.

You can also catch a Brooklyn Cyclones game at MCU Park, see a hockey match at Aviator Sports Complex, do some shopping in Brighton Beach or spend a day at the New York Aquarium.

If you are looking to relocate, Gravesend offers a robust real estate market and knowledgeable real estate agents who can help you find the perfect property. There are also good schools and a number of family-friendly activities and attractions nearby.
